Kete now available to APN Libraries.
A significant planned part of the rollout of the Aotearoa People's Network has been to provide the ability to
digitally gather the stories of the community, whether through library or public resources to be digitised,
or through storage of digitally created content. Through the provision of digitising tools such as scanners,
audio recorders and Kete (repositories for the digitised stories) communities are now able to bring their stories
into the digital space through their public library. For more information and application forms click link(s) below.
Please send the completed application form to peoples.network@natlib.govt.nz

APN Impact Evaluation Report
The aim of the Aotearoa People’s Network is
to have every public library in New Zealand connected to the Internet so that
New Zealanders from all communities, both large and small, can benefit by
creating, accessing and experiencing digital content.
The recently released Impact Evaluation
Report (pdf) shows there has been considerable uptake of the APN by users across all the libraries involved in
Phase One of the roll-out. This report
provides valuable insights into the role and importance of public libraries in
the digital age.
Additional funding for the Aotearoa People's Network detailed in this media release.
A summary of the APN
evaluation report
The Aotearoa People’s Network will benefit anyone who has
access to a public library – it will open up the digital world to all
people
and communities by giving them access to the web, providing computers
and training. Libraries and their staff will also benefit as they build
their skills and knowledge of the online world,
becoming online
experts, and in turn share this knowledge with their customers.
The Aotearoa People’s Network operates
in phases - library applications are called for, applications are
approved and installations are scheduled.
Initially, 34 libraries and 13 local authorities (Phase 1)
were involved in
the rollout which took place between November 2007 to May 2008.
See our Partners page for information on phases and partner
libraries.
The Aotearoa People’s Network is a significant project and
we will keep you updated through this website. This is part of the
People’s Network project group’s commitment to keeping libraries
informed and updated.
Information
on the next round of applications to become a Partner Library will be
advertised on this website and through public library channels.
